Custom designed pysanky

The one-of-a-kind gift for the person who has everything. I will design an egg for you or your recipient that tells their personal story in traditional symbols. Discovering the meaning of these designs is half the fun... but I include a comprehensive story with each pysanka to explain every detail. (See an example of a full-length description here.)

Egg choice

Choose from different sizes and colors shown at left. Birds vary in size, color and shape—as do their eggs. Individual eggs vary within a breed, depending upon the bird producing them. Larger eggs, which take more time to decorate, are more expensive, but more impressive. See a visual comparison of shell sizes here.

Display type

Do you want the egg to hang from a ribbon or sit on a stand? That determines where the hole will be. I suggest a ribbon hanger only for eggs up through goose size; anything else would be too large and heavy. I also have a selection of stands to choose from.

Colors

White/Yellow/Orange/Red/Black is the traditional pysanky color scheme. I can also use colors for their symbolic value (e.g. pinks for a baby girl; green for fertility) or choose hues to match a decor. Due to natural variations in eggshells and dyes, I cannot guarantee a perfect match to a swatch, but I'll get as close as I can.

Design

Some people prefer a very traditional, geometric look while others like a contemporary feel. After learning a little bit about you and the occasion we're commemorating, allow me to choose the symbols and motifs to tell the best story in the most pleasing design. Each pysanky comes with a detailed description of the meaning written on your egg, with a little bit of history about this art form, nicely presented in a folder for you to cherish along with your egg.

Payment

I accept PayPal, checks and credit cards. Full payment is expected before design work begins. With my custom pysanky, I regret cannot accept returns. Prices vary on the size of the egg and intricacy of the design. Please allow 2-3 weeks for smaller eggs, and at least 3-4 weeks for rhea and ostrich. Shipping is generally Priority Mail. Contact me to discuss price, shipping and turnaround time.

Chicken/Duck egg pysanky start at $40.00

Goose egg designs begin at $150.00

Rhea eggs start at $300.00

Ostrich eggs begin at $500.00
