About Eve Butterly
My Grandmother, Julia Ungvarsky, was
of Russian and Slovak descent. My great grandmother (also named Julia,
as was her mother, and her mother before that) taught
her how to write pysanky before she died, when my grandmother
was eleven. When I was ten, Grandma Jule showed me how to
draw designs using a pin stylus:
a straight pin stuck into a pencil eraser. I tried to emulate
the intricate pysanky designs I saw, but without a kistka
and proper dyes, it was nearly impossible. When I finally
discovered the traditional kistka, my work changed direction.
Several years later, I invested in an electric
kistka and my work has really taken off!
When not creating pysanky, I enjoy creating
other things: baby clothes, tatting, needlework, gardening, and
my daughter Julia. To support my creative habit, I work in the
motion picture industry as a script
supervisor. |
