Each year, the White House hosts
a number of activities at Easter. One of these is a display
of decorated eggs from each of the fifty states and the District of Columbia. Every state chooses their egg by a different method;
in fall of 2006, the state egg board sponsored a contest held at the
San Antonio Egg Show. My entry came in first place. (see my second place entry from last year)
The rules stated the egg must be a chicken
egg, and be decorated to represent the state of Texas.
This year, the egg artists were treated to an opening ceremony with the First Lady, a luncheon sponsored by the National Egg Board and a special tour of the White House for the artists and their guests.
I am pleased and honored that my egg is featured on the State Egg Exhibit web site.
Side one features the outline of Texas filled with a bouquet of bluebonnets. A spiralling Texas flag connects the state silhouette motif around the side to the Great Seal of Texas, with its olive and live oak branches.
A circular design with triangular rays surrounds the medallions, separating them from the blue marbled background. |
